"Kei Kanamori, a brilliant 3D Animator and CG Video Artist, has recently made history by becoming the first Japanese winner of a Student Academy Award with his breathtaking Origami animation, depicting traditional pieces of paper folding into flowers and animals. Created as a graduation project at Tokyo's Digital Hollywood University, Kanamori's masterpiece is based on the skills and techniques used in real-life origami art, "exploring the infinite possibilities of origami to bring life and wonder to the simplest material." The judges from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded the artist with the silver prize, giving him an actual chance to win an Oscar in the Best Animated Short Film category next March."
